In The Name of ALLAH, The most compassionate, most merciful
Article 1: DEFINITION
NAME & NATURE:
The organization shall be called the Islamic Society of Wichita, hereinafter referred to as the ISW. ISW is guided in all its activities and practices by the Holy Qur’an and the traditions of the prophet Mohammed (PUH) as interpreted by Ahlu-Al-Sunnah-Wal-Jama’ah.
STATUS
ISW shall be a non-profit religious organization. It shall function according to the frame work of 501 (c) (3) of Internal Revenue tax code as a tax exempt organization.
LOCATION
The current location of ISW is: 1818 N. Lorraine Street, Wichita, Kansas 67208.

Article 2: ISW MISSION
The Islamic community of Wichita has established this organization in order to achieve the following:
1. To enable Muslims to adopt Islam as a complete way of life. To assist and guide Muslims to perform the Islamic obligations. (The Five Pillars of Islam and all the fundamentals of Islam).
2. To serve the best interest of Islam in the city of Wichita and its surroundings
3. To promote unity and brotherhood among Muslims.
4. To bring about better understanding of Islam as a comprehensive Deen (way of life).
5. To reach out to present Islam and represent Muslims.
6. To assist and guide Muslims to practice the Islamic Laws as described in the Holy Quran and the tradition (Sunnah) of Prophet Mohammed (PUH).
7. To cooperate and associate with other Islamic organizations having similar objectives within the framework of this Society's constitution.
8. To establish and maintain Islamic Educational Institutions
9. To play an active role in developing the people of Wichita socially and economically.
10. To establish and maintain ISW facilities.

Article 3: ISW Methodology
The following methodology will be used to attain the Mission listed above:
- Manage ISW facilities such as the Masjid, the school, and the offices of ISW effectively.
- Establish an effective Da’wa program.
- Establish and Islamic Trust Fund (WAQF) in order to become self sufficient and support the various projects.
- ISW shall only use Shura (consulting the members) , legal, peaceful, and Islamic means to attain its goals.
- ISW shall provide various activities, projects, services, and programs to bring harmony, security, and prosperity to the people of Wichita.
- Organize resources of the community to build an appropriate Islamic community center.
- ISW shall make necessary financial arrangements to accomplish its mission.
- A full time Imam and/or administrator shall be retained at all times for the community.

Article 4: ISW Structure
The ISW shall comprise of the following:
- The General Body of Muslims in Wichita and surrounding areas.
- Board of Trustees (BOT).
- Board of Administration (BOA).
- Board of Education (BOE).
- IMAM/Public Relation/Daw'a/Community education/Prison Program
- Any needed adjutant such as counsels or committees.

Article 5: The General Body of Muslims
The membership of the ISW shall consist of persons who wish to abide by this constitution and satisfy the membership requirements. All ISW Masajid are open to every Muslim regardless of membership status. All elected members of Board of Trustees, Board of Administration, and the Board of Education must be members of the Islamic Society of Wichita. All the members of the ISW have the privilege of using the facilities (library). Members must follow the procedures and policies outlined by ISW. ISW has the right to arrange activities for members only.
Board of Administration is responsible for issuing the memberships and keeping track of the member's information. General Body meetings will be held semi-annually. The President/Amir of the Board of Administration will present his report. If the need arises, a General Body meeting can be called upon by filing a petition to the Board of Administration, duly signed by one-fourth of the members.

Article 6: Membership
A. Any Muslim who wishes to become a member of ISW must meet the following requirements:
i. Believes in Islam as a total away of life, believes in one God (Allah) and Muhammad PBUH as Allah's last messenger to mankind.
ii. Believes in the five pillars of Islam
iii. Believes in the pillars of Iman (Faith)
iv. Should be in full agreement with the mission of this organization
v. Attends ISW's regular activities
vi. Pay the required dues
vii. Must complete a membership application form
viii. Must be in good standing as a regular member for the last six months.
ix. Must be of legal age (18 years old)
Board of Administration has the right to make the final decision in applying the above criteria
B. Adjunct Member: Any Muslim who does not qualify to the above categories, completes the application form, and approved by the BOA and BOT.
C. All members shall be entitled to vote, and are eligible to hold an office in the BOA, or BOE or BOT in accordance with criteria established elsewhere in this constitution.
D. Membership dues will be adjusted at the discretion of the Board of Administration as circumstances demand.
E. Membership shall be non-transferable and non-assignable.
F. Membership may be rescinded if a member has disregarded the provisions of this constitution or Islamic values. Such preceding may be initiated on a written request by five or more members of the Society's general members and decided upon by the Board of Administration.

Article 7: Board of Trustees (BOT)
The board of trustees shall consist of seven members and three non-voting observers. The members of the BOT will be elected from the final nomination list present by the Selection committee. The non-voting members of BOT will consist of the President/Amir of the BOA, the Director of the BOE, and the IMAM. The initial term (upon the first time this constitution is implemented) will be as follows:
- Two of them to be for six years.
- Three of them to be for four years.
- Two of them to be for two years.
BOT will reserve the right to assign the positions such as the Chairperson, the General Secretary, and the Treasurer among themselves. However, the Chairperson should be among those who have been elected for six years, the General Secretary should be among those who have been elected for four years, and the Treasurer should be among those who have been elected for two years. After the initial term defined above any member that will be elected to BOT will serve for six years.
Eligibility requirements for BOT members are as follows:
- Practicing Muslim according to the Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH)
- Active members of ISW who have been in good standing in the community for at least five years.
- No member of the BOT should hold another office in ISW.
- Must posses adequate management skills, and this will be determined by the Election Commission.

Article 8: Functions of the Board of Trustees (BOT)
1. The Board of Trustees shall be responsible for overall direction of the ISW by assuring adherence to the Islamic teachings.
2. The Board of Trustees shall determine and maintain the independence and the integrity of the ISW and its holdings, which will be consistent with the teachings of Islam and the best interest of Muslims in Wichita.
3. The BOT will review and approve an quarterly budget presented by the President of Board of Administration and by the Director of Board of Education.
4. BOA, BOE, and IMAM must submit their activities reports to the BOT quarterly.
5. The BOT will convey to the President of BOA, Director of BOE, and/or IMAM any decision for implementation.
6. Any dispute between the members of ISW and/or among the members of BOA and/or among the BOE not resolved by the BOA, and/or BOE, and/or IMAM must be referred to the board of trustees.
7. The decision of the Board of Trustees will be final, unless challenged by the majority of the eligible members of ISW. At that time, the matter will be resolved by 2/3 majority of the general body or an outside arbitrator.
8. The BOT shall supervise the BOA, BOE, and the IMAM.
9. The members of the board of trustees are not individually liable for collective actions of the board of trustees.
10. Board of trustees controls the long-term account of money collected for the long-term projects.(E.g. Buying, selling, or renting requires the approval of all members of board of trustees)
11. The Board of Trustees has the right to approve/disapprove any proposal by Majlis Al-Shura to buy, sell, or rent any property.
12. The Board of Trustees has no right or authority over internal affairs of BOA, BOE, and/or IMAM unless their is dispute or are asked by the representative of BOA, BOE, and/or by IMAM.
13. BOT will be responsible for filling taxes with the IRS
14. BOT should issue a summarized quarterly financial report and post it in the main bulletin board of the Masjid.
15. BOT has the right to accept or reject recommendation(s) made by the Board of Education to hire or terminate an Islamic School teacher.
16. BOT has the right to dissolve BOA and/or BOE and/or Imam's committee after taking the consent of fifty percent of members of ISW.

Article 9: Composition of Board of Administration (BOA)
Board of Administration will serve for two years and have six members: Members of BOA will be selected by the selection committee from the nominations given by the members of ISW. The positions shall be assigned by the members among themselves of BOA at their first meeting and the decision shall be recommended for approval to the BOT.
- President/Amir of the Board of Administration.
- General Secretary
- Financial director
- Maintenance director
- Library director
- At Large director
Eligibility requirements for BOA members are as follows:
- Practicing Muslim according to the Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH)
- Active members of ISW who have been in good standing in the community for at least one year.
- No member of the BOA should hold another office in ISW.
- Must posses adequate management skills, and this will be determine by the Election Commission.

Article 10: Board of Administration (Functions and Authorities)
- Lead the community of the ISW and promotes unity and corporation among them considering Quran and Sunnah.
- Implements the ISW Constitution following its guidelines..
- BOA will be official administrator of the ISW.
- BOA shall run the Muslim community's daily activities in Wichita.
- BOA shall execute the short and long-term plans of the ISW.
- BOA shall run and control the affairs of the ISW & Masjid.
Common Duties of BOA Members
- Every member of BOA shall prepare an annual plan for his department stating the goals and objectives, time table of those goals and objectives, and methods that will be used to accomplish them.
- All members of BOA will review and coordinate their plans with the rest of the BOA during a regular meeting at the beginning of the calendar year.
- Every member of BOA will nominate his committee members to the BOA. The approval of the BOA is required to form the committee.
- Each member has to submit a quarterly report to the Amir/President of the BOA describing the work done by his department.
1) The President/Amir
A. The President/Amir will the chief executive officer (C.E.O) of the BOA.
B. He shall have direct authority over all members of the BOA.
C. He shall preside over all regular meetings of the BOA.
D. He shall have the power to call emergency meetings of the BOA.
E. He will the chief representative of the ISW.
F. He assigns the speakers of Jumm'ah Prayers after consulting with the IMAM.
G. He must inform the General Secretary of his absence.
H. He shall coordinate between the different departments, shall resolve all problems, and shall supervise all work.
I. He shall nominate new members to the BOA to replace any leaving member.
J. He shall train and supervises new members of the BOA.
K. He will review the performance of each member and will give recommendations to the BOA concerning that member.
L. He may arrange positions of his directors in the BOA as needed.
M. he President/Amir will organize regular visits to Muslim students and families, especially those who do not come regularly or at all to the Masjid.
N. He will prepare an annual evaluation of the Director (Imam) and present it to BOT.
2) The General Secretary
A. Assume President's/Amir's duties during his absence.
B. Keeps all records and files of the Masjid.
C. Maintains separate files for every department.
D. Assure that quarterly reports are filed professionally by every director, or reports to the President the failure of a particular director to file a professional report.
E. Prepares the agenda for all regular meetings and distributes it to all members of BOA two days prior to the meeting date.
F. Informs all members of the BOA of the time, date and place of every regular and emergency meeting.
G. Keeps the minutes of all meetings and publishes them to all members within three days after each meeting.
H. Prepares a calendar for times of meetings every semester after consulting with all members.
3) Financial Director
A. He may appoint an assistant for him from the committee.
B. He has to keep a record of all revenues and expenditures.
C. He has to get financial reports from all other departments and make a general financial report to the BOA.
D. He has to check money collection boxes daily and deposit them with the BOT.
E. He should ensure segregation of funds and does not mix different funds ( Zakat, donations for Masjid, school fund, funds for Islamic causes, ... etc.) To properly dispose these funds to the BOT.
F. Has to file a monthly report to the General Secretary.
G. He will prepare financial report for the next quarter to be submitted to BOT for approval.
H. He will prepare financial report for the previous quarter to be submitted to BOT.
4) The Maintenance Director
A. He should nominate a Maintenance crew and becomes its supervisor once approved by the BOA.
B. Has to consult with BOA on all important and major projects.
C. Has to file a monthly report to the General Secretary.
D. Has to file a monthly financial report to the Financial Director for all revenues and expenses and should include all receipts with it.
E. The Maintenance director shall work on maintaining and cleaning all ISW facilities.
5) The Library Director
A. He has to nominate a committee to run the library and becomes its chair once approved by the BOA.
B. Has to defining general objectives that should be in accord with the general direction and objectives of the BOA.
C. Has to consult with BOA on all important and major projects.
D. Has to file a quarterly report to the General Secretary.
E. Has to file a quarterly financial report to the Financial Director for all revenues and expenses and should include all receipts with it.
F. Has to ensure regular openings of the library to people through an organized schedule.
G. Has to maintain the organization of books, cassettes, and video tapes in the library.
H. Has to formulate a proper lending and returning procedures to prevent loss of library materials.
I. Has to improve the size and quality of the library materials.
J. Has to Review all new books, cassettes, and video tapes before adding them to the library.
K. Has to ensure the security of all library equipment and materials.
6) The Social Director
A. Nominates a Social & Cultural Committee and becomes its chairman.
B. Define all duties of the members of the Social and Cultural Committee.
C. Has to consult with BOA on all important and major projects.
D. Has to file a quarterly report to the General Secretary.
E. Has to file a monthly financial report to the Financial Director for all revenues and expenses and should include all receipts with it.
F. He shall act as liaison with the Muslim Student Association (MSA) and shall keep the BOA informed with its activities.
G. The social director and his Social and Cultural Committee should work on the following:
1. Promoting brotherhood and understanding among the Muslims.
2. Organize cultural exhibits to promote understanding, and help to eliminate un-Islamic cultural practices.
3. Organize seasonal picnics.
4. Organize Eid festivities.
5. Organize monthly E'tikafs jointly with the Education Department.
6. Organize Ramadan programs (Iftar, sohoors, and e'tikafs ...)
7. Organize marriage, A'kika, and graduation celebrations.

Article 11: Composition of Board of Education (BOE)
Board of Education shall serve for two years and it has seven members: Four members shall be elected by the parents who are members of ISW and have children going to full time Islamic School and/or part time Islamic School. One teacher coordinator will be elected by the part time school teachers and the other will be elected by the full time Islamic School teachers.
- The Director of Board of Education.
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Public Relation Officer for Islamic School.
- Two Teacher Coordinators
- Member at large.
Eligibility
- Practicing Muslim according to the Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH)
- Active members of ISW who have been in good standing in the community for at least one year.
- No member of the BOE should hold another office in ISW.
- There would be no remuneration for any of the board of administration members.
- Must posses adequate management skills, and this will be determine by the Election Commission.
- Must fulfill all the requirements that are for becoming a member of ISW.

Article 12: Board of Education (Functions and Authorities)
- BOE must obtain a final approval from the BOT before hiring/firing a teacher.
- BOE shall Establish an Islamic curriculum for the school.
- BOE shall put in place the safety procedures to ensure the safety of the children.
- BOE shall prepare a School Manual to regulate all school procedures and policies.
- BOE shall procure the needed supplies of books and teaching material.
- BOE shall Keep the parents involve with the Islamic School.
- BOE reserves the right to expel a student temporarily or permanently from the School for a bad or unacceptable behavior.
- BOE will be responsible for the full time Islamic School and for the part time weekend Islamic School
- BOE shall be responsible for maintaining school facilities.
Common Duties for Members of BOE:
- Every member of BOE will prepare an annual plan for the Islamic School stating the goals and objectives, time table of those goals and objectives, and methods that will be used to accomplish them.
- All members of BOE will review their plans with the rest of the BOE during a regular meeting at the beginning of the calendar year.
- Each member has to submit a quarterly report to the BOE describing work done by him/her and report any progress achieved during that period.
1) The School Director
- The School Director will be the chief executive officer of the BOE
- The School Director shall have direct authority over all members of the BOE.
- The School Director Shall preside over all meetings of the BOE.
- The School Director Shall coordinate between the different departments resolves all problems, and supervises all work..
- The School Director Shall nominate new members of BOE to replace any leaving member.
- The School Director shall train and supervises new members of the BOE.
- The School Director shall review the performance of each member and gives recommendations to the BOE concerning that member.
- The School Director may rearrange positions of the members on BOE as needed.
- The School Director will arrange the meeting with the parents to evaluate the performance of the Islamic School.
- The School Director will keep a record for all the recommendation/complaints made by the teachers or parents.
- The School Director will file a annual report to the BOT.
- The School Director must inform Secretary of his absence.
- The School Directory will submit a budget for every next quarter to the BOT for approval.
- The School Director will submit a financial report for every previous quarter to the BOT.
2) Secretary
A. The Secretary will assume the Director's duties during his/her absence.
B. The Secretary will keep all records and files of the Islamic School.
C. The Secretary will assure that quarterly reports are filed professionally by every member.
D. The Secretary will prepare the agenda for all regular meetings and distributes it to all members of BOE two days prior to the meeting date.
E. The Secretary will inform all members of the BOE of the time, date and place of every regular and emergency meeting.
F. The Secretary keep the minutes of all meetings and publishes them to all members within seven days after each meeting.
G. The Secretary prepare a calendar for times of meetings every semester after consulting with all members.
3) Treasurer
- The Treasurer will keep a record of all revenues and expenditures.
- The Treasurer will get financial reports from all other members and from the School Principal.
- The Treasurer shall deposit all the funds generated by tuition/fee or donation or any other source in accordance with the BOT's instructions.
- The Treasurer will file a quarterly report to the Secretary.
- The Treasurer will prepare and submit a budget for every next quarter to the BOE for approval.
- The Treasurer will prepare and submit a financial report for every previous quarter to the BOE.
- The Treasurer will make sure that teacher's salary and other Islamic School's financial obligations are paid properly and on time.
4) Public Relation Officer (PRO) for the Islamic School
- The PRO will keep the communication channel open with the parents and with the other members of the community.
- The PRO will publish and distribute a bi-weekly newsletter for the Islamic School.
- The PRO will work with the any news agency or newspaper if need arise to represent the Islamic School.
5) Teacher Coordinators
- The Teacher Coordinator will represent the views of the teachers to the BOE.
- The Teacher Coordinator will communicate the BOE decisions, recommendation, suggestions, etc. to the teachers and staff.
- The Teacher Coordinator will help find the best method of communication between the BOE and the teachers.
6) Member at Large
A. The duties for this position shall be specified by the Director of BOE.

Article 13: The Director (IMAM) of Islamic Affairs (DOIA) Committee
This committee will serve for two years and it has 5 members. All the members are elected at biannually election except the Director(IMAM) of Islamic Affairs

- Community Education
- Daw'a
- Prison Program
1) The Director (IMAM)
- The DOIA will be reporting to the BOT.
- The DOIA will be defined by the BOT in coordination with the BOA.
- Any conflict between the DOIA and/or with BOA and/or BOE and/or with the members of ISW will be referred to BOT.
- The DOIA will define the overall direction. goals, etc. for this activity.
- The DOIA shall be the responsible for the dispersing the ZAKAT funds.
- The DOIA will turn in his financial report to the BOT quarterly.
2) Public Relation/Communication
- He is responsible for a weekly news letter.
- He is responsible for the ISW E-Mail.
- He is responsible for ISW Internet home page.
- He is responsible to follow-up with the local media.
3) Da’wa
- Must develop active Daw'a program.
- Ensure that Daw'a materiel is available in the Masjid all the time.
- Provide means and ways for new Muslims to learn Islam quickly and persistently.
- Make a database for new Muslims or non-Muslims who have shown interest in Islam.
- Coordinate with MSA to organize lectures and lessons at the campus.
- Organize Islamic lectures at Churches and School.
4) Community Education
- Organizing a weekly schedule for lectures and lessons covering the needs of the people and in accord with the main objectives set by BOT and the BOA.
- Determining and coordinating with the teachers the topic, time, date, place, and duration of the lesson or lecture.
- Ensuring the proper announcement and advertisement for the activities ahead of time.
- Inform people in advance of any delays or cancellations.
5) The Prison Program Director
- May nominate a committee to cover all programs and becomes its chair once approved by the Imam.
- Define the duties of all committee members and should distribute work load as to get the job done professionally.
- Has to consult with Imam on all important and major projects.
- Has to file a monthly report to the Imam.
- Has to file a monthly financial report to the Treasury Director for all revenues and expenses and should include all receipts with it.
- The Prison Program Committee under his supervision should work on the following:
- Organizes Islamic educational programs for prisoners.
- Prepares a Prison Fund to help all newly released inmates in establishing a livelihood until such persons are able to live on their own.
- Works on establishing and maintaining a half-way house to help the parole of Muslim inmates.
- Makes all efforts possible to ensure the freedom of inmates to learn and practice Islam inside and outside the correction institutions to become productive members of society.
- Works to expanding this form of Da'wa in the prison system.
- Exchanges experience with other Masajids in and out of state.

Article 14: Elections
- The general election for BOT, BOA, BOE, the DOIA's Committee and/or for the outgoing members of BOT will be held every two years in December.
- The selection/election shall be conducted by the Selection Committee comprising of seven members: four members selected by the BOA and three members selected by BOT and The DOIA (IMAM).
- No member of the Selection Committee may be nominated to serve on BOT, BOA, and/or BOE..
- The Selection Committee shall seek nominations from the members of ISW.
- A nomination form will be given to every eligible member of the ISW. The form shall have clear instructions that will inform the members of the number and type of positions to be filled.
- The Selection Committee will collect the nomination forms.
- The Selection Committee will carefully evaluate the each nominee and they will present a final list that will have 35% to 100% number of names more than the number of open positions available. The final nomination list twill be presented to the members of ISW for the final vote. The Selection Committee shall present a list that will clearly identify all nominees' positions eligibility so that is will be clear to the voting members of the ISW. The members of ISW will have seven days to vote. At midnight (the morning of the eight day) no voting or objections will be accepted. Objections to any nominee, if any, must be confined to the Selection Committee only. The Selection Committee can accept or reject any objection.
- The Selection Committee will announce the results of the election based on the majority of votes, within three days of the end of voting period.
- One-third of the ISW members must vote for the final round of elections to be considered valid. And, if less than one-third of ISW members voted, then the elections shall be held one additional time only. If still one-third quorum is not met then the Selection Committee will select the members for BOT, BOA, and BOE.
- The quorum for the Selection shall be one third of the total number of members.
- The newly-chosen members of any board shall assume their responsibilities two weeks following the selection/election day.

Article 15: Amendments
A. Amendments may be initiated by any of the following bodies: The General Body of the ISW, the Board of Trustees, or Board of Administration. However, approval of all tree bodies is required before an amendment becomes valid.
B. The General Body may approve amendment in an open meeting in which at least one third membership is present.

Article 16: Judiciary Procedures
- Charge(s) of misdemeanor, misuse of funds, fraud, corruption, violation of the Constitution, cover-up of such offenses, etc., can be brought against a member or a group of members by a petition signed by al least 10 percent of total regular members. The petition shall be handed over to the Chairperson of the BOT.
- The members of BOT and BOA shall meet within two weeks of receipt of the petition in order to set up a panel to hear the charge(s).
- The panel shall consist of at least one member of the BOT and two other members from the General Body. At least one member should be knowledgeable in Islamic Shariah. The person(s) against whom charge(s) has (have) been brought does (do) not qualify to be on the panel.
- The panel members shall elect or choose among them the Chairman of the panel.
- The Chairman of the panel shall fix the time for the first session of the panel and shall notify, in writing, the panelists at least on week before the scheduled session.
- The panel shall conduct its affairs in accordance with Islamic law(Shariah). It shall hear the charge(s) and witnesses from both sides and examine all evidence and pass a verdict of "Guilty" or "Not Guilty", and determine punitive and/or corrective measures.
- The panel shall submit a report on their findings and actions to the general body of the regular members.

Article 17: Irrevocable Dedication
The property of this Corporation is irrevocably dedicated to charitable purposes, and no part of the net income or assets of the corporation shall inure to the benefit of private persons.

Article 18: Dissolution
Dissolution of the ISW: A three-forth majority of the General Body and BOT/BOA members may agree to dissolve the ISW in a meeting called for the purpose. Two weeks notice for a meeting will be mandatory. At least one-third of the General Body members shall ask BOT/BOA for such a meeting. This action of the General Body members shall be then considered by the both BOT and BOA.
Upon the dissolution of ISW, the BOT shall dispose of all the assets of the Society exclusively for the purpose of the Society in such manner, or to such organizations which are organized and operated exclusively for charitable, educational, or religious purposes.
For the dissolution to become final a three-forth majority of the total General Body members of ISW shall have to agree affirmatively in meetings held separately from the BOT and BOA. Any legal action regarding the dissolution may only be instituted in Sedgwick County.

Amendments
Roman Numerals I thru XI
I. Article 1.
Name and Nature: The name of the organization shall read ‘Shall be called the Islamic Society Of Wichita, Inc., hereinafter referred to as ISW.
II.Article 2
Item 6 shall read: ‘To assist and guide Muslims to practice Islam as described in the Holy Quran and the tradition (Sunnah) of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)’
III. Article 4 ISW Structure:
- Item 5. shall be deleted .
- Item 6 shall read ‘any needed counsels or subcommittees.’
IV. Article 6 Membership:
- Item A. Delete the bullet ‘attends ISW’s regular activities.’
- Item C. Shall read ‘All members, as defined in article 6. A, shall be entitled to vote, and are eligible to hold an office in the BOA, BOE, or BOT in accordance with the criteria established elsewhere in this constitution’
V. Article 7 Board of Trustees (BOT):
- The second sentence shall read ‘ The members of the BOT shall be elected from the final nomination list presented by the Selection Committee.’
- The bullets shall be reworded to:
1. Two of the members shall serve for six years.
2. Three of the members shall serve for four years.
3. Two of the members shall serve for two years.
VI. Article 10. Board of administration: Functions and Authorities(BOA):
- Item 6. Shall read ‘ BOA shall run the affairs of the Masjid(s).’
1)The President / Amir:
· Item A) shall read :’The president / Amir shall be the chair person of the BOA’
· Item B) ‘He shall have the direct authority over all members of the BOA’ shall be deleted.
· Item I) ‘He shall nominate new members to the BOA to replace any leaving members’ shall be deleted.
· Add a new item ‘He shall form subcommittee(s) to perform the tasks required for:
1. ISW Public Relations and Communication.
2. Dawa’a.
3. Community Education.
4. Prison Program.
The subcommittees shall be formed through consultation (Shura) with the BOA members. The tasks of these committees shall be defined by the BOA in accordance with the general guidelines of the BOT.
· Add a new item ’The Imam shall report to the President /Amir of BOA in administrative matters only.’
VII. Article 11. Composition of BOE:
- The following sentence shall be inserted after the first colon in the first line ‘ The Director of the BOE shall be appointed by the BOT.’
- Eligibility: Correct item 4) to read ‘There shall be no remuneration for any of the board of education members.’
VIII. Article 12. Board Of Education: Functions and Authorities:
1. The School Director:
· Item A) shall read ‘ Shall be the chair person of the BOE’
· Item B) shall be deleted.
· Item E) shall be deleted.
4. The Public Relation Officer for The Islamic School:
· Item B) : Delete the word ‘BI-weekly’
IX Article 13. The Director (IMAM) of Islamic Affairs (DOIA) Committee:
The content of this whole article shall be deleted. The amended requirements for this article shall be included in Article 10 of this amendment. The new Article 13 shall read as follows:
Article 13. Procedures for replacement of leaving members of BOT, BOA, or BOE. :
BOT or BOA leaving members:
Any member leaves the BOT or BOA before the end of his/her term shall be replaced as follows:
- The remaining members of the BOT and the BOA shall combine to form a temporary selection committee.
- The selection committee shall prepare a nomination list and present it to the members of ISW.
- The eligible members shall vote on the names in the list in order to elect the replacement person.
BOE leaving members:
Any member whose position is eligible for voting leaves the BOE before the end of his/her term shall be replaced as follows:
- The remaining members of the BOE and the members of the BOT shall combine to form a temporary selection committee.
- The selection committee shall prepare a nomination list and present it to the eligible voters for that position.
- The eligible voters shall elect the replacement person from the nomination list.
X Article 14 Elections
- Item A) shall read ‘ The general elections for BOT and BOA and the end of term outgoing members of BOT shall be held every two years in December.’
- Delete the phrase ‘ and the DOIA(IMAM).’ from item B).
- Delete the phrase ‘ The form shall have clear instructions that will inform the members of the number of the and type of positions to be filled.’ from item E)
- Item G) shall read: ‘ The Selection Committee shall carefully evaluate each nominee and they shall present a final list that will have 35% to 100% number of names more than the number of open positions. The final nomination list shall be presented to the members of ISW for the final vote. The members of ISW shall have fifteen (15) days to vote. At midnight ( the morning of the sixteenth day) no voting shall be accepted.

XI Grammatical Errors
All grammatical errors shall be corrected such that the meaning is not altered in any way. This shall include correcting typographical errors and poor phrases and sentences.

ISW constitutional amendments and dates of approval
- 8-8-98: “ In case of tie in any election, the selection committee will make the final determination by a simple majority vote”.
- 1-31-99: “Amendment of article 11 as follows:
– The statement (One teacher will be elected by the part time school teachers and the other will be elected by the full time school teachers) will be deleted.
– The statement (7. The board member or member’s spouse must not be on a paid contract with the school as a full time employee) will be added
- November 2000: “ Any member leaving the BOT or BOA before the end of his/her term shall be replaced as follows:
· 3.The statement (the eligible members shall vote on the names in the list in order to elect the replacement person) will be eliminated.
· 2. The statement (The selection committee shall present a nomination list and discuss and elect to fill the vacancy/ies) will be added.
